To learn how to compose your outfit is a first step towards discovering your style. It’s important to know what to focus on, otherwise nothing won’t make any sense. There are a few techniques I use creating a look. First of all I listen to my inner vibes and my mood.
It’s important to figure out whether you are in tender mood or ready to rock and roll. Once you figure that out, you can understand what to start with and what colors to choose. The process of composing an outfit goes step by step and if you have a “topic” for your look, you save more time and focus on things that relate to this “topic” and then just choose what works the best. For example, I wanted something classic today, so I focused on elements that relate to this topic. I also chose dominant color of an outfit which is black. Classic turtle neck sweater, leather high waisted shorts, oxfords and even sunglasses, all of these items relate to the selected topic.
I also like to think of a certain character, it can be a Hollywood diva from 60s, 80s or nowadays. As for me, my favorite characters are Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Jane Birkin, Bridget Bardot, Lauren Bacall, Marlene Dietrich. All of them have unique and interesting styles. Some of them are very feminine, some have masculine notes such as Marlene Dietrich with her pantsuits and tuxedo ensembles. I have different moods and that’s why different styles, I think it’s fun to be different.
There are also a lot of movies where the characters have great styles and you can find some inspiration for future ideas. Here are a few of my favorites: The Big Sleep with Lauren Bacall, Breakfast at Tiffany, How to Steal a Million and Two For the Road with Audrey Hepburn, La Boum first one and second one with Sophie Marceau, Beauty of the Day with Catherine Deneuve, and the list goes on.
Don’t just decide what you will wear based on the weather forecast, go further than that. There are multiple ways to look special, chic and stunning under any weather conditions. Treat it as a challenge, the harder it is to create something special the better your imagination will develop.
Remember, people don’t know what a unique and beautiful person you are when they first see you, but they can understand it from what you wear and how you look. Become a character yourself, improvise with different styles and fashion eras and intrigue the audience by your amazing personality.
